Report on the video screening of "Osamu Sagawa and Hansen's Disease Museum" by Director Hayao Miyazaki
For three days, on Sunday, February 24th, Sunday, March 10th, and Sunday, March 24th, 2019, we held the event "Commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the Opening of Hansen's Disease Museum Director Hayao Miyazaki Talks with Osamu Sagawa and Hansen's Disease Museum (Video Screening)."
On the day of the commemorative lecture on January 27th, we were able to fully accommodate many guests, including those who were unable to attend due to a lottery. We are extremely grateful for the large number of guests who attended. Thank you very much. We would like to introduce some of the opinions and comments we received from our guests.
- It was good to hear Mr. Sagawa's live voice. Director Miyazaki's story is that you can get a glimpse of the daily relationship with Mr. Sagawa who was a good friend, and living means that the connection between people and the feelings of the people you meet will increase. I felt it slowly. Thinking about everyone who has lived here in harsh conditions and in difficult situations, I also decided to take good care of myself every day. Thank you very much.
- I wanted to see Mr. Sagawa more before I was alive. It must be very disappointing (because I have met only a limited number of times). I think he had the power, strength, and persuasive power of the Storyteller It was great to be able to learn about aspects that Mr. Sagawa did not know from Mr. Miyazaki's story.
- I missed the lottery and couldn't come on January 27th, but I would like to thank you for creating such an opportunity. I realized that it is not just for people who are healthy and have no disabilities in this society. I will come again. To see if I have any feelings of discrimination.
- I came to the museum for the first time. I often heard the curator's story, word by word, without any knowledge. It was really good. I will study the materials I received again. I'll bring my friends. Thank you very much.
- It tells me that I actually came to the museum, I was able to hear the story of the curator, the Hansen's Disease at the behest of Mr. Sagawa, and how much the encounter with Mr. Sagawa moved the director's heart. I was very impressed. I'm from Nagano prefecture. I hope I can talk to someone.
- Thank you for holding a valuable event. I hope that the exhibition at this museum will leave a history that is convincing to Mr. Sagawa, Mr. Miyazaki, and the visitors.
- It was nice to see Mr. Sagawa's video in the first half. I was disappointed that I couldn't attend the event on January 27th, so thank you for showing the video like this. Subtitles were saved!
- I wasn't in the lottery, so I've been waiting for today. I was able to hear valuable stories that can only be heard here, such as Miyazaki's thoughts on Mr. Sagawa and the secret story behind the birth of "Princess Mononoke." Thank you for creating such an opportunity.
- I was guided by a curator in the morning and deepened my understanding of Hansen's Disease In addition, I was able to hear the history of Hansen's Disease Storyteller Mr. Sagawa in this video screening, and I felt emotionally shaken. It was a valuable experience to hear the relationship between Hayao Miyazaki I think this video may be shown on a regular basis.
- Thank you very much for showing us the valuable video. This is my second visit to the museum, but I am deeply shocked by the stories of Mr. Hirasawa Storyteller I still can't organize it well in my head. I would like to value human rights, avoid discrimination and prejudice, and be considerate. I will visit you again.
Next week, on Saturday, March 30th, we will hold the trajectory of the "Arirang no Kai" that will be traced with valuable images. We look forward to your participation.
